Abstract options are here!

p.s. Don’t forget to check out my Mother’s Day competition to find out how you can win your artwork!

Since I began creating synesthesia paintings many years ago my style has evolved as different aspects of the process took my creative interest. My pieces started as highly abstract as I explored my experience of synesthesia. These early paintings depicted the surface colours of a song, the overall effect of the music on my mind.

Since then, my art has evolved and my ability to articulate my own experience has grown stronger. I can identify the colours of each subtle sound within the music and have focused on translating this detail into my pieces and my synesthesia descriptions. This has lead to the sequential style of painting that you find most often in my archive. This style gives viewers the full synesthesia experience by following the song as it progresses, flowing with the music.
This year, I have found my art drawn back to the abstract style. Now when you place an order you’ll be able to nominate whether you prefer your piece to be in the abstract or sequential style. The abstract style, painted in a looser, dynamic shape, allows me to show the energy of the music as well as the key colours of the song. The dominant sounds of the music come through across the composition and allow viewers to see a snapshot of my synesthesia experience in vibrant colour.

So what do you think? Are you a fan of the abstract or sequential style? Let me know in the comments!

Personally, I’m a fan of both as they offer such different and unique ways of communicating the synesthesia experience. I can’t wait to create beautiful pieces for my collectors.

I’m Sigourney

I’m a synesthesia artist that will be forever found with paint on my nose, dancing around the studio in my yoga pants. I love travel, gluten-free brownies and working from the home studio I share with my husband. My goal? To bring you into the world of synesthesia and to create a space online that celebrates the colour and meaning of music.
