Plan the perfect 1st anniversary

Plan the perfect 1st anniversary

Time has flown by since our wedding last October and I can’t believe we’re getting closer and closer to celebrating our first anniversary! The wedding was such a special day for us it’s hard to imagine how to do it, and our first year of marriage, justice. I want something that will transport us back to the feelings of that day, but that also celebrates how far we’ve come and the new memories we’ve made together.

So, I got to brainstorming and have come up with my perfect formula for planning an extra-special first-anniversary celebration. I figure there are four key elements! Food, activity, gifts and a bit (or a lot) of sentimentality.

7 Days In Scotland – Our Photo Story

This past week we’ve been off adventuring in Scotland! Instead of my usual blogs, I wanted to share some photos from our trip and save them as a memory of such a special time. My father-in-law is here with us doing his first big overseas trip in over 25 years and one of his top requests was to see Scotland – a place he’s never been and always wanted to see.

I set about planning the perfect road trip and was over the moon when I discovered Watch Me See, a Scotland travel blog. Kathi’s The Best of Scotland in One Week (A complete 7-Day Itinerary) was PERFECT and I’m pleased to report a total winner of a trip. My father-in-law had a blast and I was so happy to have an expert in my pocket every step of the way.

Synesthesia art: The perfect bridesmaid gift

Having these amazing women around me, projecting calm and taking a no-nonsense approach to problem-solving, kept me on track and made any potential problems disappear before they even began.

I spent so long scrolling through etsy looking for the perfect gifts for everyone involved in our wedding. And it was such a challenge to find the perfect present for such a diverse group of people on such a special day for us all!

Tips for sharing the studio with your partner

This Valentine’s Day I wanted to celebrate the best creative partner in my life, my husband. Kurt and I moved from Australia to the UK in 2017 so that he could complete his PhD. If he was following his dream, I said, why shouldn’t I follow mine! I went from my previous career in Australia to working full-time in my studio and am so grateful that I have been able to build my business and provide for our family. Thank goodness Kurt is a natural chef, and a truly equal partner.

So I wanted to share our story of what it’s really like sharing a home studio with your partner, and I wanted my very own partner’s perspective. Thanks Kurt for being the perfect blogging guest!

Design your perfect Valentine’s Day

I know, I know, you have half a mind to just cancel Valentine’s Day altogether. I feel you. We’ve had some decidedly disappointing Valentine’s Days.

The first Valentine’s Day that my husband and I shared was actually a total bust. He booked a table at a swish degustation in the city and we paid through the nose for something neither of us actually wanted.

We felt totally out of place in the dim lights and cocktail attire. Even though we’d been dating for almost a year we’d apparently never discussed our actual expectations for Valentine’s and what a perfect day would look like for us. If we had we would have known that neither of us liked fancy set menus.

Celebrate your lady friends this Galentine’s Day

What’s Galentine’s Day? Only my new favourite day of the year!

Galentine’s Day is new on the holiday scene but every year it gets more and more popular with colourful brunches, crafts and quotes booming across Pinterest. Created on the show Parks and Recreation, Amy Poehler’s character Leslie Knope celebrates Galentine’s Day every 13th February.

As Knope explains, “Oh it’s only the best day of the year. Every February 13th, my lady friends and I leave our husbands and our boyfriends at home, and we just come and kick it, breakfast-style. Ladies celebrating ladies”

How to plan your dream wedding from abroad: Part 1

We got engaged a few months before our move to the UK and knew we’d be away right up until the wedding.

So what was it like planning a wedding from overseas? Well, it definitely required some extra thought. And honestly, some moments were hard. But ultimately, by sticking to these 5 ideas, we were able to plan the day of our dreams.

We’re still in full planning mode! Check out the out rest of our top five for planning your dream wedding from abroad.

Our step three? Trust the experts
We absolutely adored working with the vendors that helped with our day. The florists, for example, had a set package for literally all the flowers you could ever need at a fraction of the cost of creating a personalised package.

Our Garden House Wedding: Photo Story

I was so happy to marry my best friend and partner last year and as I’m sure you can see from these photos, it was a joyful day. After a week of watching the weather, the rain passed us by and gave us a cool and moody outdoor ceremony. We had a delicious three-course dinner upstairs in the heritage listed Gardens House and danced the night away on the balcony.

Our photo story shares the whole day.

Watercolours in 19th Century Vienna

One of the perks of marrying a historian is getting to visit the wonderful places he travels for research. This month we headed to Vienna for some quality research time at the Austrian archives. Austria is pretty notorious for having limited opening hours and as the archives were closed on a Friday, I was drafted in as a research assistant to photograph the stacks of documents Kurt was going over. It was AMAZING.

Vienna is a beautiful city and while we were there yellow ochre buildings saturated in the bright light made for a perfect early spring.
