Stairway To Heaven by Led Zeppelin
8”x10” WATERCOLOUR ON PAPER, 2018 – Listen along on Spotify
Through my synesthesia experience, the song has five distinct sections each with unique elements and colours.
0-2.14 – The guitar starts as light blues on the top left. The highest guitar notes are yellow with flutes flowing through as magenta. The low chords are dark blues. The vocals are bright blues throughout the song. The low guitar is purple.
2.15-4.18 – The rhythm guitar appears as texture browns with high orange notes. The vocals continue as blue with high vocals in hints of magenta. The guitar from 3.51 is orange and high yellows.
4.18-5.34 – The drums are black with purple bass. The vocals continue as blue with light blue guitar from 4.46. The high vocals are magenta as are the transition chords at 5.34.
5.35-6.44 – The guitar solo comes through as bright orange and brown percussion. The highest electric guitar at 6.15 is green and magenta with low blue. From 6.25 the guitar is light blue with black drums.
6.45-8.02 – The vocals are blue with black drums and high green twangs. The bass is purple. At 7.19 the highs are magenta and continue through. The final vocals are light blue.
This piece is one of a kind and was commissioned for someone special. While the paint may fall differently on the paper, future interpretations of this song will capture the same colours and moments as heard in the song.
